Home / Bird nest removal
Bird nest removal from dryer vents
A nest in your dryer vent can block it completely. We remove the nest, clean the duct behind it and can fit a guard so it does not happen again.
Signs a bird is nesting in your vent
- Chirping or scratching near the laundry room or the outside hood
- Twigs, grass or feathers sticking out of the hood
- Birds flying in and out of the vent, often in spring
- Clothes suddenly taking much longer to dry
What we do
- Remove the nest and the debris packed into the hood and first section of duct.
- Clean the full run behind it with a rotary brush and HEPA vacuum, since nests come with lint buildup.
- Fix the hood. A stuck-open or missing flap is usually how birds got in.
- Fit a critter guard if you want one, designed for dryer vents so it does not trap lint.
- Measure airflow before and after.
Timing matters
Birds nest in spring and early summer. Many species are protected while an active nest has eggs or young, so if birds are still nesting we may advise waiting a short time before removal. Seasonal homes at Hampton, Rye, York and the beaches are where we see this most.
Price
Nest removal is included in a standard cleaning at $149. A new hood or critter guard is $59–89 installed. Read more about birds in dryer vents
